How to Use:

A quick, bloodless method of castration involves using the emasculatome to crush and rupture the spermatic cords. While this method can be used on older animals, its best performed when the animal is young.

To perform this method:

• • Restrain the animal and manipulate one of the testicles deep within the scrotal sac to locate the spermatic cord.
  • Place the clamp over the spermatic cord one-third of the way down the scrotum and clamp down for 15 to 20 seconds.
  • Release the clamp and reposition it lower by half an inch, repeating the procedure.
  • Perform the same steps on the other side to crush the other spermatic cord.

Its crucial to check the position of the spermatic cord before and after each clamping to ensure accuracy. This method leaves the scrotal sac intact, allowing it to stay on the animal while the testicles atrophy. It is a great option during fly season as it leaves no large open wound. Goats should be between four weeks and four months old, with eight to twelve weeks being ideal for this procedure.

Note: This method may be perceived as less reliable than knife or banding methods, due to the difficulty in confirming that the spermatic cords have been fully crushed.
